Storm warning for Frankfurt and Rhine-Main
DWD warns of severe thunderstorms
Heavy rainfall, hail and gusts of wind possible
The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an official warning for Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region. According to the DWD, severe thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening hours. Heavy rainfall, hail and gusts of wind of up to 100 km/h are possible. The DWD advises residents to be prepared for the storms. Cars should be parked in a safe place and windows and doors should be closed. It is also important to stay away from windows during the storm. The DWD will continue to monitor the situation and issue further warnings if necessary.In addition to the DWD's warning, the city of Frankfurt has also issued a number of recommendations for residents.
- Stay indoors if possible.
- If you must go outside, seek shelter in a sturdy building.
- Avoid open areas and tall objects.
- Do not drive unless absolutely necessary.
- If you are driving, be aware of the potential for flooding and downed trees.
- If you see a downed power line, stay away and call the police.
The city of Frankfurt has also set up a number of emergency shelters for residents who need a place to stay during the storm.
